We had a delightful couple here in our Bird of Paradise Cottage the last few days whom we just absolutely loved chatting with. They were on a two night getaway while his mother was home with their son. The incredible things I learned from them about food allergies and how real they are were very enlightening. It's crazy to think that eating something or even the smell of frothy milk at Starbucks could cost their child his life. They have totally changed their lifestyles, eating habits, kitchen organization and more, just so their son can live a happy, healthy life. We were amazed at their story and hope they'll come back soon!!

The New Furniture is here!!

Scarlett (which is going to be renamed) has it's new furniture!! It's GORGEOUS!!! I can't wait to post pictures here, on the website and on our Facebook page. I want to wait until bed gets dressed though :) Stay tuned- I will have the pictures asap!!

Spring is in the air!?!

And we love it!!! I certainly do not mind this warm weather in February! Today we have all sorts of stuff going on here at the Old Brick Inn!! The mason continues to work his way around the building, replacing grout and bricks; the tile guy- Frank Sita (whom is awesome!!) is in Scarlett laying the tile in our new double shower; our maintenance men are spackling, repairing and painting walls and ceilings in the Wrightson Jones house! All the sounds of grinders grinding, cutters cutting and vacuums sucking up wall dust especially makes it feel like Spring!!

Another thing we are soooo excited about is the good work our masons are doing to our exterior! Steve Johnson Masonry is doing a wonderful job of removing and replacing old grout, resealing the brick and making our building even more beautiful! It's stood here for 200 years almost and we hope for another 200!! The meeting with OSHA and Choptank Electric went pretty well. We have the power lines on Mulberry Street to worry about- it's difficult for the men to get up between the power lines and the building, but we have approval!!

Chesapeake Suite gets a new coat!

So, I wake up the other morning and look out my back window and see this!! Apparently, someone thought they could fit through the alley and didn't quite make it. Thank goodness for insurance! The SMPD has declared it a hit and run. If you see a vehicle around town that may be responsible for this...please do not hesitate to call!

As I type this, the good plumber John Bradley, owner of ServicePro, LLC, and his helper, are running new water lines for our double shower in Scarlett! The room is going to be beautiful and the bathroom too! I can not wait to post pictures of the final product!

Fat flakes of Snow!

This morning, when I arrived for work, I mentioned to Donna (our amazing Director of Housekeeping, deer dodger & chef) that it "felt like snow" outside. It was that certain chill/feeling in the air that, well, felt like snow! Sure enough, a few hours later the fat flakes started falling from the sky. Isn't it crazy how our bodies remember a feeling in the air that means snow?

Ah, the winter has finally come!

Waking up this morning to a tiny dusting was just what we needed after these last two days of bitter cold! The weather is much better today. We can start to take down the Christmas decor and stand to walk down the street to the Kemp House to start it's deep cleaning for the upcoming season. The Kemp House, being 205 years old, is EXTREMELY expensive to heat. So, we close it up for January and February, with the exception of the Bird of Paradise Cottage, so that we can save some money in this slow and cold time of year. Should anyone like to take a tour, let me know first so that I can turn the heat on!!! Happy New Year!

A local farm, which you will pass on your way to St. Michaels, always goes over and beyond with their holiday decorations. This one is too awesome for people to pass up. As we commute on St. Michaels road, there are always people stopped on the shoulders and out taking pictures of this display! How fun and creative! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!

WINE BEFORE MADNESS!

We are so excited about this year's 10th Annual Midnight Madness!! The date is December 3rd. Before you head out into the rush and shop 'til you drop, come inside our dining room and enjoy some food and wine to fuel up!! We'll be having Hot Chesapeake Crab Dip, paired with Alente White; Puff Pastry Onion Tart, paird with Baronne du Chatelard Brouilly; Hearty Beef Stew, paired with Monte Maria Montepulciano D'Abruzzo; and a decadent Chocolate Fudge Brownie, paired with JK Estates Cabernet Sauvignon. Our housekeeper just keeps proving how amazing she is! Our new innkeeper couldn't make it in for breakfast yesterday, so we had to think fast about what to make for breakfast and who would do it. I (Director of Marketing) said I would be happy to help serve our guests and make sure the tables were set up, but I am not the best cook... Donna, our head of housekeeping (the one who was hit by a deer a week ago) stepped up and said she'd take on the cooking! Her western omelets were DELICIOUS!! The guests were even asking for the recipe and wanting seconds!!

Watch out for deer!

Our amazing head of housekeeping was on her way to get gas at the Sunoco by the YMCA and Rusticana Pizza of St Michaels, when out of the Gatsy's property comes a buck! He smashed into the side of her van, busting out all three windows on her driver's side! She was scraped and bruised on her left shoulder by his hoof! Thankfully, she ducked or it could've been her head or face! We are sooooo thankful that she was not hurt more than that and that we still have her here with us. She was taken to the hospital via ambulance and came in for work the next morning!! AMAZING!

When traveling, sleep is very important. To be comfortable and sleep well is even more important! We had a couple stay with us this weekend in our Thomas Point room. They sent us an email when they got home asking us where we bought our pillows so that they could get some of their own!! These little things are so important to us and to our guests! Sleep tight when you're at the Old Brick Inn!!

We have so much fun at these wine seminars. People are so interesting and you an really learn a lot about other places after a few sips of wine. We have a couple here who were married in the Biltmore and are here for their honeymoon. Imagine that! Married in elegance and splendor and coming to St Michaels to relax and cuddle in the cold and rain. Good thing we have fireplaces!
